Spring is off to a cold start here in Salem as an unusual storm brought snow to the valley. I'm sure that the roses will shrug it off and thrive for another year. This is what the big rose bed looked like on the mornings of the third and fourth days of spring. I measured 3 inches of snow on the backyard picnic table.

Update of March 23, 2012: Weather conditions can change pretty fast around here. Today actually turned into a very pleasant day, with the sun melting off most of the snow except for what remains in the shade. Here's a photo that I took this afternoon:
